We consider forests to be perfect ecological factories, ideal habitats for plant and animal life, and great benefits for humans.
Step for Humans places great emphasis on preserving natural forests, reducing economic exploitation, and raising awareness about the importance of forests for the health of the planet and people.
The forest areas managed by Step for Humans undergo the following procedure:
Expert Assessment of Forest Condition – experts (foresters) conduct thorough field assessments of the current state of the forest. They analyze species diversity, tree health, the presence of pests, and many other factors that affect the forest ecosystem.
Nature as the Architect
Letting Forests Create Themselves – in an era of technological solutions and rapid interventions, it might seem unconventional to let nature take its course. However, we believe that nature is the best Architect of its wonders. Our interventions are often minimal, allowing nature to work unhindered. Our role is to ensure that nature has the time and protection it needs to heal itself.
Annual Forest Assessment – we conduct a new assessment each year to ensure the forest is on the right path to recovery and development. This information allows us to compare the forest’s condition year over year, identify potential problems, and respond promptly.
Monitoring and Reporting via Social Media – we understand the importance of transparency in our work. Therefore, we regularly inform the public about the condition of the forest and its progress through our social media channels. Photos, videos, and expert texts provide insights into how the forest changes and develops under our supervision.
Our Approach to Creating Forests:
Clearing the Area – the initial step is clearing selected areas of dense brush and obstacles, especially invasive species. This allows fresh seeds to reach the soil and begin their life cycle.
Letting Nature Take Over – after preparing the area, we do not plant anything. Instead, we rely on natural regeneration. Trees that sprout naturally are often more resilient and better adapted to local conditions.
Supporting Microorganisms and Biodiversity – deep in the soil, a whole army of microorganisms, fungi, and bacteria work to create healthy, fertile land. This symbiotic collaboration between tree roots and these microorganisms is crucial for the healthy growth of forests.
Patience is Key
Although immediate results may not be visible, forming a strong and healthy forest takes time. Slow growth makes the forest more resistant to diseases, pests, and extreme weather conditions.
Ultimately, our role is more of a guardian than an active participant. We believe that when given the right opportunity, nature can create wonders that surpass all our interventions.
